Alcaraz, a senior from Aguascalientes, Mexico, has been a valuable asset for the Aggies in 2015 by winning six of her nine singles’ matches at the No. 2 spot. She has also contributed to NM State’s strong doubles’ play by claiming seven victories with partner Erika Castillo Lopez this spring.

“We are very proud of her (Alcaraz) and she deserves it,” NM State head coach Ivan Fernandez said. “Her play at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles has been incredibly solid.”

Alcaraz went unbeaten last weekend by winning two singles’ and two doubles’ matches. Alcaraz defeated UT-San Antonio’s No. 2 individual Miriam Rosell Canudas, 6-2, 6-3, and also helped NM State claim the doubles’ point against UTSA’s No. 1 doubles’ team.

On Sunday against UT-Permian Basin, Alcaraz handled Shelby Greene, 6-0, 6-2, in the No. 2 singles’ spot and also helped beat UTPB’s No. 1 doubles’ team.

Alcaraz hasn’t dropped a set in singles’ play since winning a three-set match against Northern Colorado’s Lea Krajcovicova, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 on Feb. 15.

In doubles, Alcaraz and Castillo Lopez were switched to the No. 1 spot on Feb. 7 against Kansas and are 5-1 since then.

The NM State women’s tennis team will host Stephen F. Austin on Saturday at 10 a.m. (MT), and will travel to Midland, Texas to face Western Michigan on Sunday at 10 a.m. (MT).
