EL PASO, Texas – The New Mexico State track and field team started the outdoor season competing in the UTEP Springtime with nine student-athletes finishing in the top five on the day.
Senior Diana Hawk finished in second place in the 1500-meter event just behind UTEP runner, Lilian Koech, as Hawk recorded a time of 4:36.11.
Akuadasuo Ezenyilimba earned a third place finish after throwing a 47.97m (157-4) in the women’s hammer throw.
Senior Jessica Schmitt notched a season-best toss during the Springtime recording a mark of 41.60m (136-5) in the hammer throw to finish in ninth place against the competition. Schmitt also finished third against the competition in the women’s shot put as she threw for 12.90m (42-4).
Junior Marissa Gonzales took the third place finish after recording a mark of 3.15m (10-4) in the women’s pole vault with senior Taylor Black just behind with a mark of 3.00m (9-10) to tie South Plains College athlete, Leigh Herr.
The Aggies will travel to San Marcos, Texas for the Texas State University Bobcat Invitational on Thursday, March 26.
