LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State track runner Kelsi Gonzalez earned the Western Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week for March 23-29, the conference announced Tuesday.
“Gonzalez did a nice job this week in the 800 and was a good component in the 4×4,” head coach Orin Richburg said. “She is one of the key people that will be helpful in the conference meet. She is making progress and we are looking forward to her to being successful throughout the season leading up to the championships.”
Gonzalez, a junior from Alamogordo, N.M., finished the weekend recording personal bests in the 800-meter event and the 400-meter event.
In 800-meter race, Gonzalez finished in fourth place with a time of 2:14.37 against 39 other competitors at the Bobcat Invitational this past weekend. Gonzalez also recorded a time of 57.18 as she posted a 20th place finish against 46 other competitors in the 400-meter event. Gonzalez contributed to a second place finish in the Invitational with a time of 3:50.49.
The Aggies will travel to Albuquerque, N.M. to compete in the University of New Mexico Don Kirby Tailwind on April 4.
