DENVER – New Mexico State senior Pat Beyhan has been named the Western Athletic Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week for the week of March 29-April 5 as announced by the league office, Monday April 6. This is Beyhan’s second consecutive Golfer of the Week award.
Beyhan, a native of Albuquerque, N.M., tied for fifth at the Aggie Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M, with a four-over 220. Head coach Mike Dirks knows is grateful to have such a mentally tough player like Beyhan on his team.
“Pat played great for two days at the Traditions Club,” said Coach Dirks. “The golf course really tests your ability to think and execute. He learned what it means to focus on every shot you hit and each hole you play to help make the best score you can on each hole.”
Beyhan, who led the Aggies to a sixth-place finish among some of the top teams in the nation, such as No. 16 Oklahoma, No. 34 Arkansas and No. 41 Texas Tech, finished the weekend shooting eight birdies and 37 pars. He was great in par four holes shooting 2-under-par.
Beyhan and the Aggies now look forward to the Western Athletic Conference tournament in Phoenix, Ariz., Monday-Wednesday April 20-22. The Aggies won their second straight WAC title in 2014 while Beyhan took home the individual title with a three-day score of 6-under-par 210 (67-71-72).
