LAS CRUCES, N.M.– New Mexico State men’s tennis player Patrick Pfister has earned Western Athletic Conference men’s tennis Athlete of the Week honors for the week of April 6-12, the conference announced on Tuesday.
“I’m very happy Patrick (Pfister) was recognized by the WAC,” NM State head coach Carlos Vargas said. “It’s well deserved especially because of his hard work and great play.”
Pfister, a senior from Dresden, Germany, concluded the regular season by going unbeaten in doubles and singles’ play in the final weekend. Last Friday, Pfister picked up a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Seattle U’s Tanner Berkabile. The following day, Pfister defeated Chicago State’s Rashley Yeremia, 6-0, 6-2. Pfister and partner Christofer Goncalves also claimed two doubles’ victories over the weekend at the No. 1 spot.
His efforts helped NM State clinch the No. 1 seed for the 2015 WAC Championships after defeating Seattle U and Chicago State in Chicago. The Aggies won both dual-matches by the same score-line of 6-1.
Pfister also picked-up the lone point in NM State’s loss to Loyola Marymount, Monday, April 6, when he defeated Cristobal Rivera, 6-4, 6-4.
The Aggies kicks-off the WAC Championships on Saturday, April 25 at noon (MT) by facing the winner of Chicago State/Seattle U, who will play the day before in the first round.
