LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The Western Athletic Conference office announced on Monday, April 20 that senior centerfielder Quinnton Mack has been named the WAC Hitter of the Week for the week of April 13-19. This is his first WAC Hitter of the Week award during his career.
Mack, a native of Las Vegas, Nev., hit .600 on the week, going 9-for-15 in games against Washington State and WAC opponent Grand Canyon. He came up with some clutch play versus Grand Canyon hitting .667 (8-of-12) in three games at home. Mack posted a .867 slugging percentage on the week to go along with a .684 on-base percentage, while going 2-for-2 stolen base attempts.
“What a great honor for Quinnton and our program. One of the best parts of guys receiving recognition is when they put in the work and see the improvements on the field.” said head coach Brian Green. “Quinnton has worked extremely hard to improve his swing and approach and it is paying off for him.”
Mack was crucial in New Mexico State’s series win over Grand Canyon, going 3-for-4 with a pair of runs in Friday’s win before wrapping up the series with a 4-for-5 day with a season-high three RBI in Sunday’s series-clinching 11-7 victory. He totaled five RBIs on the week, including a home run on Monday at Washington State. Mack struck out only once last week and reached base safely in each game.
The senior is hitting .321 on the year and has a team-high 44 hits and a team-high 10 doubles. During WAC play, Mack betters his average by 35 points and his hitting .356 with three doubles, one home run and eight RBI. He has stolen a team-best 11 bases this season with only one failed stolen base attempt. Mack has also got on base safely for 16 straight games earlier this season and is currently on a four-game hitting streak.
“We look forward to seeing him continue to improve, to continue to grind and to be one of our leaders on and off the field,” said Green.
Mack and the rest of the Aggies head to Albuquerque, N.M. to face Rio Grande rival New Mexico (23-16) on Tuesday, April 21 at 6 p.m. (MT) before going to Chicago, Ill. to face Chicago State (8-28-1, 2-11-1 WAC) in a three-game league series, Friday-Sunday, May 1-3.
