LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State sophomore Akuadasou Ezenyilimba, has been named the Western Athletic Conference women’s field events Athlete of the Week for the week of April 20-26.
Ezenyilimba, a sophomore from Albuquerque, N.M. (La Cueva HS), recorded a personal record in the hammer throw and discuss throw at the Bobcat Classic last Saturday. She marked a toss of 50.85 meters (166 feet, 10 inches) in the hammer throw to rank third on the conference performance list and threw 46.42m (152-3) in the discus to sit atop the WAC list this season. Ezenyilimba also competed in the shot put during the weekend meet.
“Akuadasou is continuing make improvements this year,” head coach Orin Richburg said. “She was second in conference last year in the discus and is making strides this year in her events. Overall, we hope she can continue to make improvements during this week’s meet and look forward to what she will do during the conference meet. We are happy that she is getting the recognition after her achievements this past weekend.”
The Aggies completed the Bobcat Classic with nine top-5 finishes in San Marcos, Texas on Saturday and competed against teams host Texas State, Incarnate Word, North Texas, Texas-Arlington, and Angelo State.
The Aggies head to their last meet of the regular season on Friday as they compete in the UTEP Twilight in El Paso, Texas before heading out to Orem, Utah for the Western Athletic Conference Championship May 13-16.
