LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State’s Kayli Farmer has been named a Western Athletic Conference women’s track and field Athlete of the Week for the second time this season.
Farmer, a freshman from Aztec, N.M. (Aztec HS), earned the honor for the week of April 27-May 3 as she won both the high jump and javelin throw at the UTEP Twilight last Friday. She cleared 1.61m (5 feet, 3 1/4 inches) in the high jump, second in the WAC, and threw the javelin 42.23m (138-6), the third longest toss this season in the WAC.
“Kayli’s achievement shows that we are moving in right direction,” said Aggies head coach Orin Richburg. “It is a great honor and we are going to try to continue that streak into the conference meet. We are proud for her accomplishments and hope she can continue with the success she is showing for the remainder of the season.”
Farmer was first named WAC Athlete of the Week after her performance at the after her performance at the UTEP Invitational on April 18. That week, Farmer won the javelin with a toss of 42.36 meters (139-0). Farmer also placed second in the high jump clearing 1.57 meters (5-1 3/4).
NM State will travel to Orem, Utah to finish of the 2015 conference season at the WAC meet starting May 14.
