LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Senior second baseman Kyle Graf was named WAC Hitter of the Week by the league office, Monday, May 11 and the Madness WAC Baseball Player of the Week for his exceptional performance during last week’s action.
Graf, a native of Pomerene, Ariz., helped the Aggies to three consecutive wins last week hitting .632 (12-of-19) last week. NM State as a team hit .444 last week with nine doubles, seven home runs and 65 runs scored. The Aggies defeated in-state rival 22-8 during a midweek game and followed that up with a 17-7, eight inning win over UTPA during the series opener on Friday. The Crimson and White then held off the Broncs on Saturday to win 13-12 before falling 15-13 in the series finale.
“What a great week for us, going 3-1 including a home win over the Lobos was great for the guys,” said head coach Brian Green. “The best part was that we have really have earned the production. Our guys have continued to work, which has made us proud.”
He had a big day against in-state rival New Mexico during NM State’s final non-conference game of the season. That day Graf was 3-of-5 with two runs scored and three RBI to help his team win by the score of 22-8 in front of the home crowd.
“We’re really happy for Kyle. He had a monster week offensively and he got paid for sticking to his keys,” said Green. “That was about as good a week we’ve seen from a player or an offensive unit utilizing the middle of the field and attacking the opposition early in the count. That’s our second hitter of the week award for the program this season and we are pumped for Kyle and for the program recognition.”
Over the weekend against UTPA, Graf went 8-of-14 at the plate with a double, a triple and a team-high eight RBI. Touching a total 11 bases against Texas-Pan American for a .786 slugging percentage and struck out only one time in his 14 at-bats. He went 3-of-5 at the dish with a double and three RBI in the series opener to lift the Aggies to a 17-7 in eight innings. Graf followed that with a 3-of-4 day with the bat on Saturday with another two RBI and another run scored as NM State came-from-behind to defeat the Broncs 13-12.
He finished the weekend with a 2-of-5 day at the plate. Graf had three RBI and a triple as the Aggies dropped the finale 15-13.

Graf and the Aggies close out the season with a three-game series versus North Dakota at Presley Askew Field, Thursday-Saturday, May 14-16.
