NEW ORLEANS – Eighteen NM State football players earned a spot on the Sun Belt Conference’s Academic Honor Roll and four achieved the Academic Commissioner’s List, the league office announced on Wednesday.

Student-athletes who were named to the Honor Roll earned a 3.0-3.49 grade point average, while those on the Commissioner’s List achieved a 3.5 or higher GPA. The list is based on grades earned during the 2014-15 academic year.

Dalton Herrington, a business finance major, was among those listed on the Commissioner’s List. Herrington played in all 12 games and amassed 85 tackles during the 2014 season. The freshman collected a career-high 14 tackles against Georgia Southern on Oct. 4, and then matched that at Idaho on Oct. 8.

The NM State football team begins the 2015 season on Sept. 5 with a trip to Gainesville, Fla. to take on the Florida Gators in a 5:30 p.m. (MT) contest. The game will air on the SEC Network.
