TYLER, Texas – NM State football running back Larry Rose III has been selected to the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Preseason Watch List as announced on Wednesday. This accolade is awarded annually to the nation’s outstanding Division I college offensive player who is either born in Texas, graduated from a Texas high school or played at a Texas-based junior college or four year college.
This honor, presented by SPORTyler, Inc. in conjunction with the City of Tyler, the Tyler Convention & Visitors Bureau and Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce, is given to the Texas-associated player who best exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell, including integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, community, and tenacity – Specifically tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals.
Rose III played in 10 games and had eight starts during the 2014 season. He rushed for 1,102 yards on 186 carries to average 5.9 yards per carry and 110.2 yards per game. Rose III was the first NM State player to eclipse the 1,000-yard rushing mark since 2011 and was the first freshman to accomplish this feat since 1995.
Rose III led the team with nine rushing touchdowns, including a career-high two touchdowns against both Idaho and UL-Monroe. In addition, Rose III rushed for a career-high 229 yards against UL-Monroe. He was one of just six Sun Belt Conference players to rush for more than 200 yards in a single game.
The Aggies open the 2015 season on Sept. 5 as they travel to Gainesville, Fla. to take on the Gators in a 5:30 p.m. (MT) kickoff. The game will be televised on the SEC Network and will be on the radio on AM570 in Las Cruces.

To recognize the nation’s college offensive player of the year who meets the awards criteria and to encourage student-athletes to succeed on and off the field while having the drive and the tenacity to persist and overcome adversity and injury in the pursuit of reaching their goals. The award honors the legacy of Texas legend Earl Campbell and recognizes his home community of Tyler, Texas.
Who We Are
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award is presented by SPORTyler, Inc., in conjunction with the City of Tyler, the Tyler Convention & Visitors Bureau and Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce. Located in downtown Tyler, Texas, the non-profit helps to encourage student-athletes to succeed on and off the field.
Before the start of each season a defined timeline of key announcement dates will be established. The preseason award Watch List will be selected from nominations submitted by the sports information directors of each Division I school. The Watch List will be announced at the annual SPORTyler Football Kickoff Luncheon held each year in late August in Tyler. Each week during the regular season, an Earl Campbell Tyler Rose National Player of the Week will be selected leading up to the finalists announcement in December.
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Selection Committee will be comprised of Texas-based journalists and college football dignitaries and, in subsequent years, each of the all-time winners. This year, the selection committee will narrow the field to up to 16 semifinalists in November, and up to five finalists in December. The recipient of the award will be announced in January 2016.
The 2015 Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award recipient and finalists will be recognized at the gala announcement banquet to be held January 13, 2016, in Tyler. The winner will receive a unique trophy sculpted by noted artist Ken Bjorge. The winner’s name will be permanently added to the base of the original trophy on display in Tyler.
