LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State softball team will leave for Tucson, Ariz., on Wednesday at 3 p.m. to participate in the NCAA Tucson Regional, the Aggie Athletic Department invites all fans to wish the team luck during a send-off at 2:45 p.m. in the Pan American Center north parking lot (in front of main entrance to Pan Am).

The Aggies begin play in the regional on Friday at 5:30 p.m. (MDT) versus Minnesota, which in Tuesday’s newly released rankings is tied for 11th in the nation in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll and 15th in the USA Today/NFCA poll.

NM State and the Golden Gophers will kick off the four-team, double-elimination regional.  Host and No. 12 seed Arizona will face St. John’s (NY) in Friday’s nightcap at 7 p.m. local Arizona time.  Arizona does not observe daylight savings time, so although in the Mountain Time Zone, Tucson is one hour behind Las Cruces time.

The department also announced on Tuesday that the first two Aggie games will be broadcast live over the Las Cruces airwaves on 98.7 FM with Aggie Hall of Famer Jack Nixon on the call.  Should NM State advance further, those games will also be broadcast live over a station to be determined at a later date.

The Arizona Communications Department also announced on Tuesday that all games at the Tucson Regional will be streamed live over the Internet for free courtesy of the PAC-12 Network.  All games will also have live stats available.  Click on the link provided for the regional central page, where you will find all information and links concerning the regional.

The Aggies are heading to an NCAA Regional for the second time in program history after winning both the Western Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles.  The only other time NM State made the NCAA Championship was in 2011 when it also won the regular season and tournament WAC crowns and also played at the Tucson Regional hosted by Arizona.

That season the Aggies went 1-2, winning their first-ever regional game after defeating Texas Tech 9-0.  Unfortunately, NM State would then go on to lose to host and No. 8 in the country Arizona, 8-0, before losing a rematch with the Red Raiders, 6-4.
